171 Tremont is a 20-story luxury residential tower located in Boston, Massachusetts. Sited directly across from the historic Boston Common, the tower occupies a deeply meaningful part of the city physically and conceptually. GRADE has partnered up with Elkus Manfredi Architects to design a solution that takes advantage of these conditions to create an architecture that is both contextual and fiercely modern.
The front of the tower is clad with expansive glass panels and large multi-story bronze frames. Beveled to catch the sunlight, these frames allow residents to find their homes from across the street and park. From the interior, they act as portals to the world below. Massive limestone planes with precisely cut openings enclose the back of the tower and mediate views to create a serene experience.
Expressing the qualities unique to its place, 171 Tremont makes an iconic statement and becomes a definitive part of the Common and Greater Boston. (Sq ft: 91,609)
