GRADE's architecture installation for the 2021 Venice Biennale Exhibition reflects the theme of “Time Space Existence" within a contemporary realization of space and a visual metaphor for some of the concepts informing our work and process. Our installation embodies the values of our residential work within an abstract form and offers the viewer an interactive experience of timeless design via the structure and experience of moving through it. A three-dimensional framework rises up from the base where a two-dimensional diagram is etched, reflecting the origins of our design realized through a distillation of ideas and aesthetic concerns from the traditional to the modern. Against the historic Palazzo Bembo, cerused oak slats transform, undulate and converge overhead in a harmonious pattern of modern arches elegantly interpreted from classical sources.
